Preparing for donation
3 days before donation:
- Do not take dietary supplements, vitamins, or medications (especially analgesics and salicylates).
- Avoid blueberries.
- Avoid alcohol.
Two days before:
Avoid:
- energy drinks
- fatty and spicy foods, mayonnaise, sausages
- beets
- store-bought chips and crackers
One day before donation:
- Avoid physical exertion
- Eliminate from your diet:
- eggs
- dairy products
- honey
- bananas, nuts, seeds, avocados, legumes
- pickles and canned foods
- citrus fruits, grapes, cherries, strawberries, currants, and other red fruits
- chocolate
What you can eat:
- Lean boiled meat or fish
- Cereals and pasta without oil
- Boiled or fresh vegetables (e.g., potatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes)
- Light-colored fruits (apples, pears, apricots, plums, peaches)
Be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day.
On the day of donation
- Get a good night's sleep
- If possible, refrain from drinking coffee
- Be sure to eat breakfast: for example, porridge or pasta without oil, with tea, bread, and low-fat cookies
- Do not smoke for 2 hours before donation не можна курити
After donation
- Do not drive for 2 hours.
- Avoid physical activity until the end of the day, especially on the arm from which blood was taken.
- Do not smoke for at least another 2 hours, and do not drink alcohol until the evening.
- Limit your consumption of strong coffee.
- Drink more water.
- Eat regularly, choosing healthy foods.
- Treat yourself to your favorite treats 🙂
